Lunch Pack Competition: Terms, Conditions and Prizes

Terms:
(a) The Lunch Pack Competition is open to all students registered at Primary and Intermediate schools in New Zealand.
(b) There are two categories:
                (1) review – of the top 25 Kiwi kids books published on the kids.nzbookmonth site and
                (2) interview – of New Zealand children’s authors.
(d) Entries can be made by video, audio or written submission.
(e) All entries must be submitted to the www.kids.nzbookmonth.co.nz site from 18th August till 15th September 2008. Entries must be received by 5pm on 15th of September.
(f) Entries will be awarded marks 1-5 (1 being top, 5 being lowest) for
  • Creativity in content and presentation
  • Original thought and analysis of the subject matter
  • Excellent comprehension of the subject matter
  • Excellent grammar
(g) The competition will be judged by a representative each from: LIANZA, Storylines, The Children’s Book shop,(Christchurch), Learning Media, and NZ Book Month.
(c) Within each category, entries can be made by individuals and groups/classes (It is suggested that these different categories will be more or less attractive to readers of different levels without providing age parameters to the competition, in order to recognise the wide variation of technical skill and confidence in reading in children.)
(h) There will be one winner each* for
  • video/audio review by an individual
  • video/audio review by a group
  • video/audio interview by an individual
  • video/audio interview by a group
  • written review by an individual
  • written review by a group
  • written interview by an individual
  • written interview by a group
* NZBM reserves the right to combine winning categories if entries are low in any particular category. NZBM therefore will provide a maximum of eight prize packages, but reserves the right to provide fewer prize packages if there are fewer categories.
 
Conditions:
q       Entries must be registered on the official NZBM kids website www.kids.nzbookmonth.co.nz and are to be submitted only in electronic form. 
q       Written entries should be a minimum of 350 words and a maximum of 1000 words.
q       Audio and video entries should be a minimum of 30 seconds and a maximum of 2 minutes.
q       Judges’ decisions are final and discussion will not be entered into.
q       Entry presumes NZ Book Month’s right to publication and use in promotion. But copyright remains with the author.
q       Winning entries will be notified by phone and email.
q       Entries must be received  by 5pm on 15th of September.
 
Prizes:
(i) All winners will have their work published with Learning Media. (In school journal, or online)
(ii) The winners of the group sections will win a set of the top 25 Kiwi kids book for their School library.
(iii) Winners of the individual sections will win a $100 Booksellers New Zealand book token.
(iv) A representative from a group entry (along with a caregiver if necessary) and individual winners (and a caregiver if necessary) would be flown to Auckland for the Lunch Pack Prize Giving Day on 24th September to receive their prize and meet celebrities and the other winners.
(v) Each class of all winners (both individual and group entries) will receive credit for one Tip Top ice-cream each from their local dairy (to be arranged with NZBM and Fonterra).
