Matt Gibb – presenter on TVs Studio 2

Erica Clarke – Librarian

Nick & Conrad Turzynski – father and son duo, authors of How to Eat a Huhu Grub

David Hill – author of loads of bestselling books for young adults

David Hill was born in Napier and started writing in high school to impress a girl – apparently this didn’t work! He started writing fulltime in 1983 because he liked to tell stories about people who matter to him.

His award winning writing – novels, plays, short stories and poems – have won him many awards and have been translated into numerous languages.

He suggests that if you want “to be a writer should read as much as you can. Every page you read gives you ideas. You should also keep everything you write – don’t throw anything away. You may be able to come back and use it later. And start sending your work away – to the School Journal especially.Good Luck!”

Father and son duo, Nick and Conrad, have put together a great little book for kids – and their parents – who like to do things! How to Eat a Huhu Grub (Random House) tells you how to make paper from poo, how to eat a huhu grub (really!), tells stories of adventurous NZ people, how to identify native birds and trees and even how to make and launch a drink bottle rocket! Read their interview here and you can win your own copy of How to Eat a Huhu Grub by entering our competition.

Erica is a children's and teens' services librarian for Waitakere Library and Information Services. She talks about NZ Library Week and what is in store for the week, and what a day as a librarian entails. Click here to see what's on in your area.
